As of Monday 18 May, all of our students are expected to be attending school for their education, rather than learning from home, unless there are special medical reasons related to COVID risk. We encourage parents who have questions about this requirement to contact the school. We also wish to remind families that should children be unwell, they should remain at home to recover rather than attending school. We look forward to seeing everyone in class!
LEARNING CHOICES FOR TERM 2
19 Apr 2020
The WA Premier and Minister for Education have announced that they hope to see students back in schools from Wed 29th April. However, they also said that parents could choose to continue to have their children learn from home for the time being if they had concerns. It is entirely up to families to decide what is best for them. Nannup DHS will support families either way. However, it will help us if students are either 'at school' or 'at home' rather than attending school part-time. Families will be sent a text (SMS) message about their intentions prior to the start of Weeks 1, 2 and 3. Please reply SCHOOL to the text message if your children will be on siteor HOME if they will be continuing to learn from home during the upcoming week. We will continue to inform parents of any changes in policy.
COVID UPDATE: LEARNING FROM HOME
29 Mar 2020
The Minister for Education and Training has requested that all students who are able to stay at home should do so from Monday 30 March. We appreciate parents keeping their children at home while teachers prepare distance learning packages for all our students. Distance learning will commence for all students from the start of Term 2. In the meantime, teachers have provided information about learning resources via class dojo, and the Department of Education has provided resources on its website. Parents who are unable to care for theri children at home due to work or other commitments can send them to school. Please contact the office on 9756 1008 to let us know if your child will be attending school in teh two weeks prior to the school holidays.
COVID 19 UPDATE: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
21 Mar 2020
COVID 19 UPDATE: WHAT’S HAPPENING AT NANNUP DHS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW CONTINUING: Regular lessons in regular classrooms with regular teachers. Normal play at recess and lunch times. Communication on class dojo about learning programs, homework, and changes in policy as they unfold. PAUSED: Excursions, carnivals and camps MODIFIED: Assemblies, dance lessons, Easter Parade, Anzac service (these will go ahead, but with modifications to meet Department of Health recommendations. Details will be provided prior to each event.) NEW: Supervised handwashing for all students a minimum of three times per day. Enhanced cleaning regimes that follow new Department guidelines. PLEASE HELP BY: Getting your children used to the idea of a drop off and pick up at the front of the school rather than at the classroom door. Over the next week or two, we will be phasing out parent reading help and settling in times in classrooms in the mornings. We will also be discouraging social play on the equipment after school. These measures are designed to reduce risk to families. PLEASE REMEMBER: Keep your children at home if they are unwell, practise recommended hand washing and cough and sneeze procedures and model these to your children, and use the new social distancing guidelines as much as practical. SUPPORT YOUR CHILDREN: As your children’s most important teachers, we encourage you to provide them with factual information based on Health Department guidelines, answer their questions as they arise, and provide them with reassurance. You might find this Coronavirus explainer booklet useful. ASK FOR ADVICE: You can contact the school office on Monday from 8am with queries - we will be happy to speak to you or return your call.
UPDATE Reducing the spread of COVID 19
16 Mar 2020
Nannup DHS follows the advice provided by the Department of Education, which is informed by the up to date information from the Department of Health. There is little likelihood of school closure at Nannup in the short term. However, there is still plenty we can do to reduce the spread of the virus.
We are teaching students how to wash their hands properly with soap and water for thirty seconds
after coughing or sneezing,
using the toilet,
before eating, and
when they are dirty.
We are teaching students to use and throw tissues in the bin and to cough or sneeze into their elbow rather than their hand.
We are reminding and encouraging staff, parents, visitors and students to stay home if unwell or feverish and to go home if they become unwell during the day.
We encourage everyone to do their bit responsibly but without alarm, to ensure that medical services and emergency supplies are available to those most at risk. People should contact the Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080 if they are concerned or confused.
30 Jan 2020
The Department of Education is acting on the advice of the Department of Health and implementing necessary precautions for schools across Western Australia to minimise the spread of the Novel Coronavirus. The Department of Health advises that if a student has been in contact with someone who has contracted the virus, they should seek medical advice and stay away from school until they are clear of symptoms for 14 days.
As an extra precaution, if a student has travelled to or through China or Hong Kong in the past two weeks, parents are asked to keep them away from school for a period of 14 days from the date they returned to Perth. After that time, if there are no symptoms, the student should attend school.
You can download a letter from the principal outlinging the requirements (English or Mandarin).
For more information, please check thefactsheet on the Department of Health website. The Helpline number is 1800 300 243.
